Prioritisation by Percentage area of potential NFM

These datasets presents an approach for prioritisation of Natural Flood Management (NFM) within Wales. This approach was developed as part of a review of NFM in Wales. More details on this review and how this map was created can be found here.

This map was developed to give a strategic overview of the areas which are more suitable for NFM. Catchments have been identified upstream of communities at risk of flooding and have been assessed depending on the percentage areal coverage of NFM potential. A greater potential for NFM is assessed as having a higher priority based on the greater potential for reduction in flood risk.

Four different datasets have been created to target two different catchment scales, small surface water flood risk catchments and larger fluvial flood risk catchments and to reflect different potential user priority aims, flood risk management and wider environmental benefits. These include:

  • NFM Prioritisation for Larger Flood Risk Catchments
  • NFM Prioritisation for Small Flood Risk Catchments
  • NFM Prioritisation for Larger Flood Risk Catchments with weighting for ecosystem service provision
  • NFM Prioritisation for Small Flood Risk Catchments with weighting for ecosystem service provision.
