Have Your Say on Walking, Wheeling and Cycling in Flintshire!

Active Travel Network Map (ATNM) Update 2026

Flintshire County Council is updating its Active Travel Network Map (ATNM)—and we want to hear from you.

We want to provide Flintshire with a network that allows for walking, wheeling and cycling to become the most natural and normal way of getting about for local journeys. And, by doing so, to promote the health and well-being of everyone and to make our towns and villages more liveable places.

Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales must regularly review and improve their walking, wheeling and cycling routes. Our current map was approved by the Welsh Government in August 2022, and now it’s time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past three years.

We are reviewing and refining the ATNM to include:

  • Existing Routes: These are routes that meet Welsh Government standards for walking, wheeling and cycling (or all three).
  • Future Routes: These are proposed routes that either don’t yet exist or need improvements to meet the required standards.

Please note that this consultation does not include issues relating to Public Rights of Way or any Highway matters not associated with walking, wheeling or cycling as these are not covered in the Active Travel Network Map review.

Once you have selected a location, please complete the short survey below.

If you would like to comment on multiple routes, you may submit more than one response.

Active Travel Network Map (ATNM) Survey

1. Are any of the routes shown as existing routes on the map difficult, unsafe or unsuitable for walking, wheeling or cycling?

2. Are there any walking, wheeling or cycling routes that should be on the map but are not?

This could be because there is no route there at all, or because the route that is there is not good enough for walking, wheeling or cycling at the moment.

3. Are there any routes shown on the map that should be removed?

This could be because the route is no longer needed, for example if it leads to a school that has moved.
