- Abstract
The Welsh Language Commissioner has a unique responsibility to advise on the standard forms of Welsh place-names. These recommendations are published in the list of Standard Welsh Place-names on the Commissioner’s website. You can browse this list to get more information about how to pronounce the names and to see images of the places as a result of a partnership with Wikimedia.
The forms published in the Commissioner's list have been standardised by the Commissioner's Place-names Standardisation Panel. The Panel follows national standardisation guidelines in formulating its recommendations: Standardisation of Welsh Place-names.
You will notice that Welsh language names are given priority on this map. You will need to click on the blue dot next to the name in question to get more information about the name and to learn if there is an alternative form to be used in English.
The Commissioner has also developed an API for these names which may be of interest to developers. Please contact the Commissioner directly to discuss further.
