- Abstract
Smoke control areas are areas where people and businesses must not:
- emit smoke from a chimney
- buy or sell unauthorised fuel for use in a smoke control area unless it is used in an ‘exempt’ fireplace (appliances which are approved to use in smoke control areas)
The relevant legislation is the Clean Air Act 1993.
Guidance for smoke control areas can be found on GOV.WALES.
Refer to the UK Smoke Control Areas website for the list of authorised fuels and exempt appliances that can be used in smoke control areas in Wales.
This data has been provided to the Welsh Government by local authorities and is indicative only. In some cases, boundaries have been recreated as defined in original Smoke Control Orders and may intersect buildings. If in doubt, please contact your local authority to confirm if you live in a Smoke Control Area.
