Marine Planning Soft Constraints
Welsh Government
These layers represent soft contraints which might have implications for any future development of the following resources within the Welsh National Marine Plan area:
- Aggregates
- Aquaculture Bivalve Seabed
- Aquaculture Bivalve Suspended
- Aquaculture Seaweed Suspended
- Tidal Range
- Tidal Stream Seabed
- Tidal Stream Surface-Mid
- Wave Seabed
- Wave Surface
- Offshore Floating Wind
A soft constraint is a spatial consideration which relates to a particular sector and may be relevant for a particular project. The relative significance and implication of a soft constraint or set of soft constraints will depend upon the nature of the project being considered.
The soft constraints mapping work undertaken for the refined Resource Areas and Strategic Resource Areas derivation involved grouping soft constraints into four categories:
- Very low risk of conflict and/or very good potential for co-existence.
- Low risk of conflict and or good potential for co-existence.
- Medium risk of conflict and/or low potential for co-existence.
- High risk of conflict and/or very limited potential for co-existence.
