- Historic Environment Features on LPIS land for SFS
- Abstract
1.1 Background
As part of the advisory services work undertaken by Heneb: The Trust for Welsh Archaeology, historic environment feature areas are created to identify areas of known archaeological/historical significance. Depending on the nature of the site, areas may depict one or several historic environment features. The boundary of each area represents the current known extent. The areas do not represent all recorded Historic Environment features, rather a filtered dataset, matching criteria applicable to the Sustainable Farming Scheme. Areas pertaining to more than five sites are currently excluded, as well as sites with an area of 11 hectares or more. Additional information on the areas can be sought directly from Heneb: The Trust for Welsh Archaeology.
1.2 Frequency of update
The creation of historic environment feature areas is an ongoing process. Existing areas may be subject to periodical revisions where new archaeological/historical evidence is identified. Additional new sites identified by Heneb’s advisory services department may also be added to the existing dataset.
Data is updated on DataMapWales on a quarterly basis to reflect changes to the dataset.
1.3 Depictions
Data has been captured using a variety of different sources including Ordnance Survey Mastermap, geo-referenced historic maps, as well as LiDAR and aerial imagery. While the positional accuracy of the dataset is considered accurate, there may be some limitations depending on the sources used to digitise features. Any queries on the spatial depictions in the dataset please contact Heneb’s advisory services team directly.
1.4 Use of Data
There are no use restrictions on this data. Recipients may re-use, reproduce, disseminate this data free of charge in any format or medium, provided they do so accurately, acknowledging both the source and copyright as specified (see below), and do not use it in a misleading context. It is the recipient's responsibility to ensure the data is fit for the intended purpose, that dissemination or publishing does not result in duplication, and that it is fairly interpreted.

General Advice
Interpretation advice should be sought where necessary as the dataset is not an exhaustive list of all known archaeological/historical features and sites. This dataset is checked periodically, however, if you would like to discuss the dataset, please contact Heneb’s Advisory Services team at advice@heneb.org.uk
