Identification
- Title
- Marine Licenced Disposal Sites - Cefas
- Abstract
Historic and current designated sites for disposal of dredge material at sea. Disposal sites in the past have been designated by UK government agencies. These sites are now designated in Wales by Natural Resources Wales through the issue of a marine licence under the Marine and Coastal Access Act (2009). Disposal sites are designated based on industry requirements taking into account proximity to certain activities, such as ports which are dredged on a regular basis and ecological conditions as well as other parameters. They vary in size and location. Some have evolved over time and sites are designated for different reasons. Designation depends on certain factors including (but not limited to) the type of material being dropped, and the physical processes occurring in those areas.
