These datasets show all messages issued for flooding from rivers or the sea in Wales since 2006.

There are three flood warning codes:

  • Flood Alert - flooding is possible; be prepared (replaced Flood Watch in 2010)
  • Flood Warning - flooding is expected; take immediate action
  • Severe Flood Warning - severe flooding is expected; danger to life

Environment Agency Wales provided data up until 1 April 2013. Since then, it has been provided by Natural Resources Wales.

The data is split across two Excel files. The first covers February 2006 to July 2024, when the Environment Agency’s Flood Warning System (FWS) and Floodline Warnings Direct (FWD) systems were in use. The second file contains data from July 2024 onwards, following the transition to our NRW-owned Flood Warning Information Services for Wales (FWISfW).

Live flood warnings and alerts can be viewed here.
