This dataset was last updated in October 2024.

This dataset shows the locations and boundaries of disused coal tips that have been assigned a rating of R, A or B using an interim category system. R, A or B rated tips reflect tips with the unlikely potential to impact public safety and are inspected  less frequently than C or D rated tips. This dataset will be subject to accuracy improvements and should be considered a working version that will change over time. None of the interim category ratings given suggest that a tip is at imminent risk.

From Autumn 2024 this dataset will include an attribute that shows the last date a disused coal tip has been inspected. The data will be refreshed twice annually (once in the spring and once in the autumn) to align with the continuing programme of inspections for category C and D disused tips.

This dataset is part of a programme of work to review and improve coal tip safety in Wales being delivered by Welsh Government and its partners.

Legend

B - a tip with the unlikely potential to impact public safety
A - a tip with the very unlikely potential to impact public safety
R - a tip with the very unlikely potential to impact public safety. Potentially levelled and built over
