The purpose it to gain an up to date understanding of the distribution of marine non-native species to inform their spread and inform casework advice. The data used to build this GIS layer comes from existing relevant locations where data is held and has been amalgamated into one location in ESRI format. It contains data from the 1930s up until 2023. Various datasets containing marine non-native species were integrated to build this GIS layer. These included internal NRW datasets including Marine Recorder, KiECO and ad-hoc records of non-natives NRW hold. External datasets used were from the NBN Atlas. No new surveys were carried out for inclusion in this dataset. The methods used to collect the marine non-native species records varied and contained non-natives from specific surveys to ad-hoc records.A list of agreed non-native species was used as a basis on which to extract species records. Different methods were used to extract records from the different sources but a list of species was captured in Excel and imported into ArcGIS for review. Additional fields were added, including one for the species status on the Wales marine INNS Marine Invasive Non-native Species Priority Monitoring and Surveillance List for WalesA process was undertaken to remove any duplicate records which were noted.
